New guy in Utah

Thread Starter

Hello my name is Ryan and I am a meataholic. I figured I better make an intro since I have been posting on Gary S's posts.

I'm originally from Iowa but the Air force decided I needed to be stationed in Utah. I've been stationed out here since 03 with a few trips to the sandbox and a year in Korea. I love cooking outdoors and have been interested in smoking for a long time. I have a char griller duo with the added smoke box. I've had this setup for roughly 5 years but for some reason I have been intimidated by smoking meats. Well with adding the dutch oven to my arsenal last year I figured it was time to step up and be a man. I stumbled across this forum when I google searched " what was the easiest meat to smoke". This site came up and a thread of Gary's about pork butt 101. I read that thing over and over. That weekend I made the pork butt and it was pretty good. Had a learning curve with that side of the grill you know simple stuff like the difference between Celsius and Fahrenheit. (225 C is not the same as 225 F)

Anyways Thanks for all the guidance that I've found in here. I also found some modifications I need to do to my smoker to get her working optimally.

Thanks Guys,

-Ryan

Welcome to SMF, Ryan!

Welcome Ryan!  What kind of smoker do you have?  225C is over 425F, that is high for a smoker.

Welcome!

I am also here in Utah :wazzapp: in NSL area. I also use a Chargriller Duo with the side box. You may want to search "Char griller Duo mods" to help with some of the control and issues you may have had while smoking the butt. Ive done many of them and it helps. I love this forum it has really helped me hone my skills and turned my smoking into a more "validated" hobby, and made it a lot of fun! Any smoking guidance you need this is the place, lots of AWESOME people on here helping out.
