Ok why do you think that. Sorry I had to ask.
Meat is forced through the knife and plate by the screw not by the extra meat that fits in a larger cavity in the screw. My cabelas will ride along side or even take the lead with the big bite LEM. Most grinders already have a larger cavity where meat is introduced into the screw area anyways...... Just another sales gimmick

I have a cabelas 1 hp. but I found this bang for the buck. 3/4 hp. Gander mountain has some good quality stuff and good prices especially around the winter season

I just pick up this same model last week when my old one died while grinding burger. I also found a coupon code online that reduced the price to 300 bucks... I've only used it once so far but i'm very impressed with the quality.
I just looked up my receipt and it was 329 last week with a $30 discount made it 299 pre tax.

I too have the Kitchener #12. It works OK .......But....... I have to push/force every piece of meat through it to get it to grind.
My next one will be a LEM with a "Big Bite" auger. Just drop meat in and it grinds.

You might check the cutter alignment.... maybe you put it on backwards... I have done that and I had to really push hard on the meat... also, sharpening the blade and sanding the plate could help.....

This blade and plate are from the Kitchen Aid mixer...

Also one thing I have noticed at all of the local stores that carry grinding supplies is that they usually only carry supplies for #8 and higher. I have never seen #5 supplies so if you need something you will always be stuck with ordering it online unless you find a store that just so happens to have #5 supplies.

You'll know if you put the blade on backwards.  At least I did in my LEM #8.  Made one helluva noise the first time I turned it on.  I thought I wrecked the machine right there and then.  I had to change my shorts too.

What would you guys recommend for a meat grinder around $350? I would like to start processing my own deer/elk.
Check this one out, it is from a great company with an Outstanding customer service/help line. plus this unit comes with all the attachments you would want/need and currently below your price range from them direct and you might even be ale to do better from a local supplier. Call them to see who has them in your area. here is a link to Weston #8 Grinder / stuffer I have the #22 and can not say enough about the unit including the ease of cleanup. I only use it as a grinder due to having a stuffer, Just my Opinion.  http://www.meatprocessingproducts.com/080801w.html this unit is on sale for a shot time.

I have a $100.00 Kitchener   Works great, very fast, but I am not a heavy duty useier, about once a month

So13, If you are good hunter then you will be grinding up more than 10 pounds at a time. I have a cabelas 11/2 hp and do deer and moose with it.Even a small deer will give a lot more than 10 pounds of burger to do make sure you get something that will handle the load.

I consider myself a "good hunter" and will grind up 50# batches of venison and pork at a time.  The 1/2 horse Kitchener for 100 bucks chews it up and spits it out just fine.  If you are grinding more than a few times a month you may want to go bigger, but no real need otherwise.
