spherical smoker build

Thread Starter

Good Morning!

I've found a 150 gallon (not quite 3' diameter) spherical propane tank and am considering building a firebox behind the access I'd cut into it.  Any thoughts on expected performance?  A little googling has me concerned about a too-much-direct-heat issue.  But with an offset firebox, I think it would be ok, right?

I've also posted this in the offset firebox forum as I think it's applicable there as well.  If double posting is wrong, I apologize and will delete one.

Thanks!

Mike

I am not expert, but if direct heat is an issue, you could always "pipe" in the smoke and the heat.  Don't have the firebox directly connected.  Kind of like they do with cold smoking and mailboxes.

Kind of like this:

But I am no expert, and maybe wrong.  Just offering up my two sense.
