Here it is with the help of this forum I built my first Kelvinator smoker. I used a Bradley smoke generator and a Auber controller and a 1500w heating element. I used chrome rack system. from a retail store for the adjustable shelf system.I lined the inside of the door with aluminium after picture was taken 

 
Looks great so far!

I've never thought about mounting the element vertically. I think it would work, but you might need some type of diffuser or baffle to push the heat out towards the middle a little more?
 
It's not completely vertical it's mounted on the angled part probably 45 degrees. The stainless pan above holds water and seals well against the back to protect element and defuse direct heat. I ran it at 350 for six hours to test and season
 
are the holes in the liner sealed? it looks like the spot where the old mounts for the original shelves are not sealed. If they aren't you need to seal them up.

otherwise it looks great
 
Yes holes are all sealed with high temp rtv
