Hi everyone just wanted to introduce myself. I am a student up in Maine currently living in the L/A area and have really just started smoking meat this summer with a cheap charcoal kettle and getting some decent results! I have been on the lookout for a real smoker however. I have hemmed and hawed over charcoal or electric or propane or wood pellet. It's a tough decision. I mostly like to do ribs and brisket but would love to start smoking chicken and fish (especially salmon). I did come across a great deal on the black olive kamado pellet smoker locally (under $500 brand new) and am thinking of jumping on it.

Hope all is well and I look forward to joining in on the board!

Welcome to the board! I suggest you get a simple little charcoal rig to start with, then have that on hand as a backup when you move on to something else.

Good evening and welcome to the forum, from a nice cloudy day in East Texas, and the best site on the web. Lots of great people with tons of information on just about  everything.
