OK JOE Diffuser Plate ?

I have not bolted the diffuser plate to the firebox/CC wall which leaves a 1/4 inch gap allowing air to move up into the CC instead of down from the Firebox.  When I close the gap with aluminum foil, it makes the FB side of the CC much hotter, which is odd to me.  Has anyone had this issue?  Should I bolt the diffuser plate to the wall or will it also cause the FB side of the CC to get hotter?

Take this with a grain of salt since I don't have experience with a diffuser plate yet. I just finished one and will try it tomorrow. Aluminum is used as a heat sink (stores to dissipate heat and as small as your foil plug is it may be enough to transfer additional heat on the fire box side. I do plan to bolt mine to the wall eventually. Just food for thought. I imagine those with experience will have better responses.
