Well its been raining for about a week solid here in Houston so once this rain lets up we will make some more progress.......Hopefully sooner rather than later

I have followed this post now and am in the process of getting materials to get a smoker made. The dimensions will be very similar to what you have done here. Would you be able to share any drawings/measurements with me as I begin this journey? Thanks and I'm sure everyone would love to see how the grill is coming along.
Also, do you have to stand on something to open those doors?!?

Can you tell me a few things?
Size and thickness of angle iron you used for slides and for tuning plates to rest on? How did you figure the grate stops so they won't fall off when loaded with food?
Are both grates the same dimensions?
What kind of valve and where did you find it?

Thanks!
My father in law picked up my pipe, 34 inch diameter and 6ft long this past week. I have to gather the other materials needed now and really like your build.

Thanks, I PM'd you. We plan on building a rack underneath the pit and we are going to build a little step/platform to stand on.

It got hot this summer and we opted to wait for the cooler weather rather than welding on this thing in the blistering heat. Its now cooling off over here so we do plan to start back on this here in the coming weeks.

As far as the size and thickness of the angle its 1" x 1" x 1/8" thk.

For the grate stops we just cut about a foot of extra angle and laid it over the top (with a small gap).

Top and bottom shelves are different sizes just because the contour of the pipe.

Valve I just went to home depot and picked up a decent ball valve

Thanks
