Just to say hi and tell y'all a little about my cooking history. I'll cook on just  about anything you can burn coal and wood on or in, from a brinkman basic smoker to the pit and a few in between. I'm a bit of an old school BBQ type and usually prefer cooking with oak and hickory. Understanding that sometimes wood is a regional thing and you use what you have. As i have several pear trees on the property we have used some of the pruning to cook our Thanksgiving turkey. That was a pleasant experience.

I cook for the family and for LARGE groups with the help of a few friends. Its all just a good excuse to spend a little time having fun and drinking a cold adult beverage or two. Not to mention enjoying the product of the labor. I look forward to learning more about cooking and sharing with any that need a little advice. Its all about getting better every time you do something - especially cooking :-)

Welcome from the upstate, Musky. This is a great site for sharing ideas and tips. I'm sure you will fall right in. Good luck and keep on smokin'. Don't forget we would all like to see pics of your cooks.

What part of SC are you in? Joe

Hello Joe :-) Was just in Greenville yesterday for our sons birthday - we live just south of Columbia. If you were any closer I'd tell you drop by for a plate of BBQ at our Labor Day Festival.

Columbia ain't all that far. We can meet in Nweberry and swap plates. Like you, labor day is a big Q day at my house. Joe

Good afternoon and welcome to the forum, from a nice pleasant day in East Texas, and the best site on the web. Lots of great people with tons of information on just about  everything.
