I bought it based on the reviews but, I think I got a lemon. I've used it 20+ times and replaced the battery 3 times. I make sure I turn it off, but maybe I'm doing something wrong. I hold the button for 10 seconds and it seems to shut off, The blue tooth pairing is simple enough but I can't be 20 feet away and it will disconnect. Other reviews say they are in the living room but I have to walk within range to get picked up. I have blue tooth speakers and I can go almost anywhere in the house with those. Bottom line I'm done with this one and need another option.  Nothing like smoking a brisket and your IT gauge doesn't work because the battery died again

I love mine, but am usually within twenty feet so I can't say much about the range.
When you power it off make sure you hold the power button until it displays "off", I think that is causing your battery drain issues, it will tell you when it's off so you don't have to guess.
