I've been smoking a few years, but I recently went from smoking on a chargriller grill (using only one side) to a brinkmann trailmaster limited. biggest reason for switch was I got the brinkmann for 199+tax, I know I could get a box for the chargriller, but they seem to run 99+tax, which is on a grill that is now 7 years old, and may not even line up, plus for $200 bucks, it was a good deal.
mods already done, sealed with high temp silicone, lowered the exhaust with a tight fit aluminum dryer duct, added a water pan to help balane the temps, 2 cook height thermo's.. seems to hold temps well and is very workable. I seasoned it by coating it inside and out with pam, on the chargriller I did this and never had paint lift in 7 years so I'm hoping my luck continues. been lurking a while but finally wanted to share something.
start of the first smoke, all the mods were done prior to first cook, because I looked on here and found the mods that people seemed most supportive of and went with it. all in I think I have about $45 in mods, not a bad deal.
things I might look into, cook door clamps, we'll see if they are needed, just a little smoke is leaking, and it stops if pressed, but temps seem good so I'm not sure I want to do more work for light gains. I have considered the tuning plates, I just haven't decided yet, as a possible option to remove the water pan, maybe, but for now we will smoke and see.
