I have been watching a lot of the smokehouse builds on here for a couple of years, and decided it was time to build my own. I am in need of more room for sausage smoking, and this seems like the best option. I have looked through everybody's different designs and have borrowed the basic dimensions from TennSmoker. I have made some adjustments to suite myself and my needs, but his design is a very efficient use of materials. I have kept the same dimensions at 3'x3'x6'. This was his thread.  http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/t/127538/smoke-house-plans-materials-plus-1st-q-views

I have been purchasing parts for a while now, but I started the actual build this past weekend. I have gotten the front, back, and sides all cut, as well as the base put together. I will try to get some more work done on it this coming weekend, but I have to work Saturday and am on-call Sunday, so it could be the following weekend before I get much else completed.

I have decided to use furniture grade 3/4" Red Oak plywood as I will be staining it when finished. This will also be under a ceiling and wont be getting rained on.

Here is what I have so far.

Here is the front. You will notice a small irregularity in the cut of the bottom door opening. The bevel on my jigsaw was not locked tight, and it started to lean over during the cut. The inside of the opening was not affected, and this will be covered by trim, so no real harm done.

This is the back wall. I used the 3-12" pieces cut off of the front and both sides to make the back. They are held together with 2-1x4s on the outside and a 2x2 on the inside.

Front with the two side walls. I have since cut the side walls for the angled roof. The front will be 72",  but the back will be 68". I have also installed the intake vents on the bottom of both sides.

Here is the base. I will also be adding a block in each corner to mount rolling casters, so that it will be mobile.

I will be using the burner from Northern Tools that a lot of people have been using as my heat source, and using my AMNPS for smoke.

Thanks for checking out my build, and of course I will gladly accept any advice or constructive criticism you guys might have for me. I will continue to update the thread as I get more accomplished.

great start, (great plans also) you are well on your way

I finally had a little time this weekend to get back in the garage and work on the smokehouse. I got the racks installed on the walls, and got the walls and floor assembled. I also got the bottom door installed. Still lack the top door, trim, roof, flooring, stack, and all of the smaller details. Hoping I will have this thing ready to roll by the middle of September. It is taking longer than I expected, and is costing about twice what I was expecting, but it has been one hell of a fun project so far. Thanks for looking, and as always, any suggestions are welcome.

Love how the garage light above it makes it look like there is a light inside.

I was pretty stoked at how well this door went together. Hoping the big one goes as smooth.

looks good so far.... I have a question if you don't mind.... just wondering why you used knotty pine (spruce) on the door instead of oak to match the oak plywood ?

No problem at all. I wanted the contrast in grains and color. I am either going to stain the outside, or use linseed oil for the finish.

Had the day off and got a little more work done. Got the main door installed and the corner trim on the front corners added. Was in town this morning and completely forgot to go by Home Depot for the last hasp I need for the door. Hopefully I can get some more work done on it this weekend.

This project has run a lot longer and more expensive than I ever imagined, but I am happy with the results. I had a little more time to work on the smokehouse this past weekend, and have made some good progress. Got the roof on it, and got some shelves built and installed. Also got the concrete pavers cut and placed in the bottom.

The shelves turned out well.

Got the elbow at the bottom of the stack attached, but will wait til I get this beast out of the garage before I attach the stack permanently.

Pavers fit nicely, and got the gas line installed.

Just lack a few more minor tweaks and this baby will be ready to roll. Still have to add the metal roof to the top, and I need a shelf on the outside for the Maverick and hole to run the cables inside. I have some locking casters for the base, if I decide to use them. Of course, I still have to put a finish on it. I have decided to use Waterlox Tung Oil for the outside finish on it. I will post some more pics once it is finished.

Beautiful smokehouse Bill. Have you smoked any food in it yet?
Not yet Alelover. I still have a few finishing touches to complete. I have to put shingles on the roof, and the Waterlox sealer and finish should be here this week. I am hoping to have everything done and have some bacon in it the first weekend of November. I got it into the curing brine yesterday. I am ready for this project to be finished! I will definitely post some pics from the first run.

Nice looking project you've got going.
Thanks Jack. I have the first two coats of Waterlox sealer on it. I still have 2 coats of the finish to get on it, but should be finished Saturday. Will have bacon and cheese in it Sunday with some final pics. Finally seeing the light at the end of this tunnel!
