I'm curious as to whether you guys smoke your Tri Tip slowly at 225 or cook it a little higher around 350?  I've done it both ways but I'd like to hear which way you prefer and why?

I like to reverse sear Tri tips! Smoke till 120*IT then sear about a min flip min flip min flip min flip to get great grill marks. Best of both worlds.

I like to run my smoker Round 180. Gets more smoke. Once the tri tip hits an IT of 120 I crank the heat and sear it off! Yumm!

I sometimes give tri tip some smoke at 225 for 30 min, but the actual cook is done at the "medium" setting on the traeger -- about 350 degrees.  I think that cut is better cooked faster, more like a steak.  We do a lot of tri-tip here, 45 min to an hour at 350 and I generally hit a nice medium or medium rare mark.
