MES 40" Bad wires or typical problem?

I get my MES 40" during holidays of 2013. But I start actually to use it last spring.
Smoker worked quite well until one day later in the season the heating element stopped heating. I get a replacement part, but did not have a chance to install it until this spring.
When I opened a back end I've notice that one of the wires is not connected (burned out). I cleaned and fixed the wire. That solved the problem. However last weekend I get the same problem. Display set to 180, but no heat. I opened back end again and found another wire burned out. I fixed it and box is working again.
Question is that typical problem or just unfortunate case?
If anyone had same issue and how to prevent it except (if possible)? posible)?

There are a lot of posts on here of people with the same problem. There seems to be a batch of MES units with undersized wiring. The fix has been to replace the wires (not just the connectors) with a larger wire and to use high heat connectors.

Here are some threads:

Hi Big LL,

A few years ago there was a bunch of MES smokers that had that problem within a year of purchase. Most of them had been purchased from Sam's. It was a real flood of them at that time!!

Just a few weeks ago, my 5 year old Cabelas bought MES 40 quit heating on me. I checked it out, and the wire was fine, but the hot connector had turned to dust. We replaced the Flag connector and soldered it, and so far it's working great.  We'll see.

Mine did that this spring. Wires were ok but flag connectors were toast. Replaced with high heat connectors.
