Myself, my brother and a friend are starting building 3 identical smokers, 1 each :)
This site with its endless info from some very knowledgable members and their builds is what we're going to be working off.

Smokers are pretty much non existent in Ireland.

Our first step was to mock up our design with a few materials I found in the shed.

Size wise we'll be using a 19.7" x 39.4" chamber
Large propane tanks are impossible to source here so getting 3 cylinders fabricated along with 6 disks for ends. Using 3mm steel for these. Cost of €140 per cylinder and 2 ends.

Firebox, going insulated, inner 16" x 16" x 17" and 1" Rock wool insulation around it to outer box.

We'll figure the rest out as we go but for now here's our mock up :) lol

I will need plenty of advise along the way but know I'm in the right place :)

That's a good price for the chamber, send one of the the UK a for me!
Thought it would be a lot dearer myself too.

Met with my friend who's our welder this evening and he drew out all we need and some great ideas too.
We're getting as much as we can fabricated for us.

Simple ideas like if we need a 506mm diameter disk for each end because we have a 500mm internal with 3mm steel cook chamber then get them to cut a 566mm disk and out of that cut the 506mm and be left with a 30mm wide with the perfect curve flange disk as well to use as door braces and to mount hinges to etc :)

Going with a 5mm uninsulated firebox for the first build we do, going to mount this one on wheels and use it as a first project for us.

Once we start i'll be better explain it with pictures

Box plans done.
Getting these pieces fabricated and then just a square for the base on the box. All in 5mm steel.
We'll be using an ash try so that's why we need the bit more space on the bottom of the box.

The top will fit nicely this way as well.

I like that FB design so far.
Takes a pretty powerful brake to make those bends, but should be nice to put together.

The metalworks that's making our cylinder can make them but we're going with his competition about 25 miles apart so 1 shop won't have all our smoker plans :D

Need a bit of calculation help.
We'll have our cylinder, drip tray, door braces, door flanges and box this coming week so time to cut between our firebox and cylinder will be near

We will be going with semi circle opening in both so need to get the correct measurements.
Did I read that the Feldons calc isn't the best to use?
I'm on an iPhone so can't open .xls files or anything like that. (I think)

Finally got all the bits (almost) fabricated.
Going to build 3 smokers all the same :)
Will be busy learning how to weld all winter but hopefully won't be too bad.
Have space and tools and a friend who's an expert welder so should be ok.

Got the calculator working one day in work but lost my calculations but will check them again :)
Thanks for the link Dave.

One question regarding the last calculation on the firebox, 2.4" sq holes x 2 on the lower of the box is what the last calculator had advised but don't have an option for "number of holes" beside square holes on this one.

Do you have to have a vent higher up on the box as well?

I haven't seen that form you have there...

CC Volume in cubic inches X 0.001 = FB air inlets in square inches... 15/85 or 20/80 or 25/75.... somewhere in there will work for the upper/lower inlets..

Recommended upper and lower air inlets... Upper air inlet directly across from the FB/CC opening to facilitate moving heat from the FB to the CC, and insuring good air flow through the CC.. The lower air inlet should be situated at or below the fuel grate.... The two air inlets can share the designated square inches of opening....
