For a very long winded reason....that ended up changing today....I put the flanges for the cc door on the body (air compressor tank). After a total of 4 hours of messing with it I surrendered to it. There is a small area where I just couldn't pull the flange completely flush. Had 5 c-clamps piled in the one area, just wouldn't pull together. Once I get the last flange mounted I am planning on making a RTV gasket, if I can find the thread about it, and lighting the AMNPS.....going to just put it in the cc to see,if it leaks. If it does leak out of the corner I will just seal that corner with the welder....

pictures would help.......
When I go to lock the garage later on I will take some. So frustrated by it. Started out with me accidentally cutting the sides of the cc door a bit long and having to weld the slit shut.

Just finished the flanges. Mocked up a piece on the door itself. With how far into the cooking chamber I pushed the FB and the location of the door just no way it was going to work...

You have it close, put a gasket in it and call it a day. Either a green egg adhesive gasket or RTV with cellophane treatment will work.
isn't there a thread about the rtv/cellaphane treatment?

Close the door.. mark the edge of the door... put saran wrap on the door or smoker... put High Temp silicone on the other... gently close the door and let sit for 24 hours... MAKE SURE TO HAVE ENOUGH SILICONE THE FIRST TIME...... silicone will not stick to silicone if you have to re-do it...

Think about grinding off those globs of weld first....

Thanks for the "how to". Mark the edge of the door?? Will be grinding off the boogers when I get some wheels tomorrow...

I couldn't find the post Ribwizzard did on the subject but I did find where he commented about it on another thread. He said to make sure to paint the metal first, it seems when he applied silicone on the bare metal, it rusted before the RTV cured. Must have something to do with the solvents in the rubber but he said it rusted quickly. He is in Florida in the humidity and salt, but it made an impression on him enough to post about it.

Whodathunkit? Thanks for the heads up....

Glad I got that oxy-acetylene rig off of Craigslist. Used it to help fix the disaster on the dome and to bend some half inch solid round stock to replace those nasty hinges I made on the cc door.

Try heating the location with a couple of c-clamps. As it begins to release and give in, add some more clamps. When it is in the proper alignment, tack it between the clamps and leave it until it cools. Remove the clamps and finish the weld.

Good luck, Joe
