How to preserve fish?

Me and my brother are going camping. We will probably catch some lake trout. How can I make jerky out of it, so we can keep it for 10 days unrefrigerated? I don't have any fancy equipment I'm just going to make a fire and put pine needles in it or whatever. I don't need precise instructions, But can you make smoked jerky with something after cooking it?

Pine needles wont work? OK, I could  use some branches from my neighbors pear tree. Thanks for the heads up.

Cooked fish will not keep.... it must be salted and dried... cold smoke will help keep the pathogens down as will cure #1..... coating the fish with black pepper will help keep the flies off....
