My name is Jim and I have been using a Big Green Egg for a couple of years.  Really love the way everything comes out.  But, I am ready to try a stick burner and looking at some of the choices out there.  Looking at a Lang, Yoder, Meadow Creek, Custom Pits, Peoria, Jambo American Barbeque and Shirley Fabrication.

I live in the D area and the biggest thing is the shipping.  When you buy a $2100 smoker and the shipping is $900 more, that is tough to handle.

Anyway, thanks and looking forward to getting a lot of good information.

Jim

Good evening and welcome to the forum, from another sunny and hot day in East Texas and the best site on the web. Lots of great people with tons of information on just about  everything.

I feel your pain, I'll be heading down to Tuscaloosa Alabama in September. Shirley Fabrication is building my family a cooker.
I considered some of the same builders you are and did extensive research on different types of smokers. I factored the shipping cost and figured we would just pick it up ourselves. I'm just southwest of Chicago so it's 12 hours one way.
Go to Shirley Fabrication's Facebook page for up to date builds. I haven't seen two the same yet. They are truly master fabricators and very pleasant to deal with.
Good luck with your choice.

I just sent in my deposit for a Shirley smoker.  Will work out the details since the delivery date is March 2016.
