Hi.

First time poster from the UK.

Been looking for some advise on smoking. So thought it would be easier to post

I have never smoked before so am looking to get my first smoker. But am unsure what is the best one to get for a first timer.

Have been looking on google and there is so many available im really lost in which one to get.

Have seen some cheap ones but they are obviously cheap for a reason. Dont want to buy something and then it be useless to cook with.

So am hoping people on here with a lot more experience can guide of which way to go.

Regards

Andy

Hello and Welcome to our addiction.  Many good folks here with a load of experience that they are more than willing to share.  If you have specific questions just start a thread and someone with experience will be along soon to offer advice.  All info you can provide us with such as smoker type, location and so on will help us answer any questions you may have, and pictures help a bunch.  Spend some time doing some research on the forums, tons of advice and recipes already available there.  Check out Jeff’s 5 day smoking E-Course ( link below ) that will help you get started.  Couple other good threads to help you get started included.  We look forward to your contributions.  Have fun.  Good luck.  Keep Smokin!

Hello.  For a new smoker I would recommend the 57cm Weber kettle.  Ready to use form the box ( although I did add wooden handles to the dampers. ).  Can grill or smoke on the same unit.  Coated on the outside to help against rust.  Will fit in the shed.  Easy to control heat.

If you buy on of the cheaper lookalikes you will have a cheaper lookalike that will rust and require mods to control heat.  Go to your local DIY.  Raise the lid off the lookalike, then do the same with the Weber.  All your questions will be answered.  Just my opinion.  Good luck.  Keep Smokin!

The 57cm Weber is a great place to start. Unlike the cheaper look-alikes the Weber will last you 10 years plus and the height of the lid dome means that you can smoke larger pieces of meat. I have been smoking my Christmas turkey whole in my Webers for many years.

I was a Grillstock in Bristol last weekend and almost every competition team there has at least one Weber 57cm that they were using to produce items that were being judged.

Whatever you decide to buy let us know and we can give you some hints and tips as to how to get the most out of it.

One other consideration I thought I should mention. Smoking is all about tempertarure control. Whilst you are looking for the smoker you should consider also getting yourself a dual probe digital thermometer - something like a Maverick ET-732/733 - as this will really help your confidence with your first few smokes and will always be invaluable tool after that.

Hiya Eurocharged, hope you are OK , welcome to the forum and all that,

click on the following link http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/groups/show/38/uk-smokers and this will take you to the UK section of the forum where you will find a group of like minded individuals in the UK who are into smoking chunks of meat and other stuff.  We get plenty of support from our American cousins but there are thing that we do differently in the UK so that's where the UK forum comes into it's own.

I look forward to seeing you there, and feel free to post on the UK forum.

Out of interest, where are you from?
