Thoughts on pork belly?

I have few friends faraway that rant an rave about pork bellies. what is so special about it? I feel like I'm missing out on something great! But I assume it's not any different than bacon.?? I'm curious about smoking one. What's your thoughts???

Probably the best cut on a pig! When done right it is succulent, velvet goodness!

cured/smoked pork belly is bacon.

 

smoked pork belly is.... smoked pork belly.

 

cured pork belly is.... cured pork belly.

 

all three are awesome,

 

crispy pork belly is one of the best things I've ever had. done right, its silky and rich and wonderful. done not as well its too heavy and the textures aren't quite right.
