I have done some reading on cold smoking.  I just want to make sure I got this straight.  I want to start making bacon.  I plan on purchasing an AMPS.  Now I just fill that with pellets or sawdust, light and put in the bottom of the smoker correct?  Thanks in advance.

Yes and no. Depends on the type and size of the smoker you have. If it's a small smoker you may need to put the smoke generator in a separate container and pipe the smoke in. Check out mailbox mod using the search feature. Larger smokers you may not need to. I use the AMNTS tube smoker and I can put it in my larger smoker when the weather is cold, but if the outdoor temp is warmer than 60 I have to put it in my mail box mod and pipe the smoke in. In my smaller smokers I have to pipe in the smoke for cold smokes.

Since you're looking at making bacon and cold smoking it make sure you get yourself some cute and read up on that.
