It started with a question on whether I could use an old propane grill for charcoal; and went from there. You have a great site here and I know I will spend a lot of time reading!
I live in the Austin area and have been to many of the leading BBQ joints in the region - though not all. I have NOT been to Franklins yet but I plan to go someday when I have a free morning to wait in line. I am sad to say that I have not found a "perfect" BBQ in my travels. Some have great meat but the sauce is lackluster, some have excellent sauces but the meat is not right, some you go just for the butterbeans and peach cobbler. Funny enough the one place that ranks highest in all three for me is Rudy's. You Texans will be familiar with Rudy's but for the rest of you it is attached to gas stations throughout the state. Please fill me in on places to eat BBQ in TX.
In my real life I am a construction project manager and travel quite a lot which gives me the opportunity to try regional foods. On the side I build custom guitar amplifiers. I am married with kids and that keeps me busy in and of itself.
I am in a transitional phase of grilling. My Brinkmann 2500 is dead beyond repair and I am currently looking for something new that wont break the bank. I plan on converting the Brinkmann for charcoal so I will have two options. My wife is hinting at memorial day sales and early father's day gift so maybe I will get lucky?
Anyway, glad to be here, now it is time to explore!
BTW, My avatar is a Harissa crusted crown roast I made for Christmas this year.
