square vs round fire box

What is the advantages of a square fire box (fb) vs a round one on a RF smoker
post #2 of 3
Mine is round, but I have a warming plat on top that gives my a flat surface to keep sauce, beans or whatever warm. I also use it to pre-heat splits. With my arrangement, I can't see very much difference. I'm sure you will get a lot of opinions on both sides.

The only advantage that I see with a square FB is ease of fabrication in not having to deal with any curved surfaces, and flat plate is readily available. With the round on the other hand, there is less welding if starting with a piece of pipe.

Performance wise, no difference.
