Masterbuilt smoker

Thread Starter

The Winn Dixie has this smoker for $85.00 on sale, $65.00 savings.  I have never had an electric smoker, always used a WSM.  I find it hard not to buy this just to experiment with electrics.  Any thoughts?

I have a Masterbuilt 30 Dig, along with a WSM and A Traeger. I love the masterbuilt for cold smoking for it holdes a low temp and you can get a cold smoke attachment.

This is an analog model and I'd stay away from it. There's a reason why it's $85 and that's because the electric digital models are far superior. There's a member named Bearcarver who can give you all the cons of buying a MES analog model and the pros of buying the digital models.

This is the model I own and this is a great price for it: http://www.amazon.com/Masterbuilt-20070910-30-Inch-Electric-Controller/dp/B00104WRCY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1432052226&sr=8-1&keywords=masterbuilt+30+electric+smoker

There are other bigger, newer and more expensive versions of this smoker but this is a great entry level smoker, which is why I bought it. Three years later it's still performing great.

As @daRicksta siad, the analog models are very limited. I would go with the digital as you get a lot more features.

bmaddox, I didn't know you could tag people on SMF like you can on Facebook or other social networking sites. Is it enough to just post your name or do I need to format it @bmaddox? I think the latter.

Yea I don't see many people do it but if you use the @ then their name it will send them a notification that they have been tagged. I use it to give credit where credit is due.

Your tagging me was the first time I've gotten an SMF email that someone had mentioned me in a post. As for giving credit, Bearcarver taught me what the points are used for. Early on I figured out how to award a point but never figured they were tracked and tallied. Problem is, SMF isn't programmed to notify you when you someone gives you a point. Wonder if I PM'd Jeff if he'd pay an IT guy to have that feature added?

That is an analog unit.

An analog was what I learned on when I started with electrics. Its a great smoker to learn with. No horns and whistles, its not digital so you learn how to think about how to do it right. For 65.00 dollars it will be great fun to enjoy and learn on. Then you'll no doubt want to progress to bigger and better, but you'll have learned the basics, heat, smoke, meat.

You can't cook for a large party, you'll need to cut meats so they fit the smoker, you'll learn to smoke without peeking, and it will give you when mastered a great smoked meat.

I wore out three analogs in 30 years, not masterbuilt but they are mostly all the same.
