Hi guys, this is gonna sound a bit dumb maybe, but what is tomato sauce?
In the UK tomato ketchup and tomato sauce are often used interchangeably.
But I'm reading Steven Raichlens Barbecue Bible, and the basic bbq sauce recipe calls for 1/2 cup of ketchup and then 1/2 a cup of tomato sauce.
I know U.S. books would ask for crushed tomatoes or seived tomato or passata. So what is it?
yours bemused, (but it could be smoke on the brain) of Leicester.:icon_confused:

Tomato sauce typically consists of cooked tomatoes, olive oil and seasoning. Ketchup's ingredients are as follows,Tomato Concentrate , Distilled Vinegar, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Corn Syrup, Salt, Spice, Onion Powder, Natural Flavoring.
Sometimes as much as 25% corn syrup.

Ah, ok . I thought passata is what our cousins in north America call crushed tomatoes. Garlic herbs olive oil and passata cooked up together to make a neopolitan pasta sauce or marinara.
such a varied fruit!
