Very nice build damascusmaker. I really like that someone else is also doin a bit of forge work on their smoker. Hinges look nice and give me some ideas for mine.

Where did you find your adjustable bit for your rack? Something I have been looking for and can't find locally.

Thanks and keep postin pics.

Thanks bmadox, I have found on local CL someone selling chunks, cut with veg oil saw specifically for smoking. Haven't run them down yet in a nearby city.

Thanks jhtitan, The adjustable rack came from some kind of industrial shelving system I picked up somewhere years ago. If you click the first photo it's white just behind the drum. It was a major pain to get free the parts I wanted. Had to go at it with plasma cutter then an air chisel. Then couldn't find clips to fit the holes, had to make them and that was more time consuming aggravation and a job I'll probably try to do again a different way. I have another if you happen to be in driving distance of Bristol, TN. It is much heavier material than what Lowe's wanted too much for.

Appreciate you noticing the forge work. I want to forge a small dragon head to set on the vent, if I can get tome time.

Plan to try bacon wrapped and spiral cut hot-dogs this evening! Man, the photos I saw on here looked so good.

I'm back after Supper: The smoked hot-dogs were great. If that were the only thing the UDS would do it would justify the build and keeping it. Used sub rolls and put one bacon wrapped and 1/2 a spiral cut per dog along with other deluxe fixings.

damascusmaker, I have 3 pineapple twist handles and a modified pot rack to mount to mine. as soon as I finish the handles. one for the lid and 2 for the drum to move it in and out of the shop. Bit too far to drive over but thanks for the offer. I will keep looking altho I have been toying with an idea of a forged adjustable rail. will see if I am ambitious enough to try it.

Over the weekend i smoked a chicken on sat, a pork butt on Sun, and what I call "Man Candy" on Mon. Oscar Meyer Smokies hot dogs (Just like Little Smokies only full size), sprinkled with a dry rub, wrapped in maple cured bacon and then coated in brown sugar. Smoked at 250°F for an hour and flipped them and let them go for another hour. They were amazing! everything was, we ate well this weekend LOL.

Before and after pics below:

I bet the pineapple twist handles will be nice, twisted basket handles would be cool too.

I'll be stealing your "Man Candy" Idea. Put them in the freezer for my afternoon snacks
