Newbie needs help

I recently purchased a Chargriller pellet grill. I'm having a hard time getting enough smoke flavor into the meat. If anyone has suggestions I would really appreciate it. Where I live the only pellets I can buy are the Chargriller ones. Are there some online stores that offer different types? What about additional hardware? I thought about putting a coffee can with wood chips next to the firebox. Bad idea? Thanks in advance! Michael

Hello elvador,

Is this the first food you've ever eaten that was smoked on a pellet grill? The reason I'm asking, there are some who are accustom to eating smoked meats from a stick burner or a charcoal smoker who are not big fans of the smoke level produced by pellet rigs.

Pellet cookers generally burn cleaner and produce a more subtle smoke flavor than charcoal and stick burners. Many pellet grill owners will supplement the smoke with some kind of smoke generating device that adds extra smoke...such as Todd's A-Maze-N Tube Smoker, found over at A-Maze-N Products. I use one of these myself in my pellet smoker. Just realize that, even with one of those tube smokers, your pellet grill will probably never give your meat that heavy smoke taste that comes from some stick burners or charcoal pits.

I don't know if that helps you or not...but I hope it answers your question.

Forgot to answer your question about buying pellets...

There are many options for purchasing pellets online. Just do a Google search for BBQ pellets or cooking pellets and you'll get lots of options. Amazon is also an option for purchasing several good brands of pellet fuel.
