Replace Weber gas grill with Cookshack PG500

After getting into smoking more with my Cookshack 025 I am really starting to notice that my gas grill really isn't providing a great grill taste.  I think it is pretty good for burgers and steaks, but after doing some chicken on it I really started thinking that it doesn't have much flavor.  I was just over to a friends house and he made some chicken on a Weber charcoal that was really tasty.

 

My Weber is about 10 years old so I feel I got my money's worth and it would probably last another 10 years.  I would like to try and up my game with more flavor while grilling.  I have to admit that the convenience of the gas grill is important for those after work dinners and I have my grill on a composite deck so I am a little worried about any accidents with charcoal.  I was thinking a PG500 might be a great choice to obtain more flavor while grilling, be convenient for quick cooks, and safe to use on a composite deck.

 

Is my thinking inline with what you guys have experienced?

I own a Rec Tec pellet rig, and like it very much as both a smoker and a searing grill. IMO steaks and burgers cooked over a wood fire have a better flavor than those cooked on a gas grill. After I realized my RT would put a good sear on a steak, I gave my gas grill to one of my sons.

That PG500 is a very nice unit because of the direct-flame zone feature. This would allow you to high-sear a couple of steaks after work without the need for any setup adjustment to the unit. When I sear steaks, chicken or burgers on my RT, I have to remove the grease shield, put some foil in the bottom of the barrel to catch drippings, and change out the left side stainless grates with my set of searing grates. This only takes a few minutes, but it'd be nice to have a grill with the ability to direct-flame sear without doing anything except turning it on. The reviews I've read on that PG500 are all very good.

This does it all and no mishaps have happened yet. I don't know how one could. Pretty darn solid unit.

That weber gasser is 31 years old and still works like a champ. Do you really want to get rid of yours? I love my Kettle. It is a Performer 22 inch and will smoke and grill with the best of them. It is super easy to clean out and makes no mess whatsoever.

Thanks for the input guys.  It sounds like a PG500 is a good choice, but also Weber gas grills are built like tanks and Weber charcoal grills are still considered great for turning out awesome tasting and looking food.
