Leave it.  Makes a nice barky piece of meat.

When I buy boneless butts and shoulders I don't bother to tie them up like some do.  They have loose pieces all over.  Makes for some great extra bark. 

Just pick it up and put rub on all sides of the flap.

Than you, just wanted to get the pros advice before I rub it and let it chill overnight. Did a few modifications today to my cheap walmart smoker worked good for the seasoning/test run today.

Great advice above! I love a lot of bark on my butts. When you pull the pork after the smoke, the bark mixed in will give it a great texture and contrasting flavor! Can't wait to see it done.
