Living in an apartment for many years has had me down for so long.  Since electric grills are fine, I asked about smokers and was told fine (wonder if I will make my neighbors angry or hungry with the smoke smell).  My Masterbuilt will be here Tuesday and I've been debating what to smoke for it's first use.

And hi from CenTex.

Welcome & congrats on the new Q toy ! Give your neighbors some Q & they won't complain.... I'd suggest maybe a pork butt for pulled pork or some ribs for the first smoke !

Here's a Masterbuilt owners group that may be of interest to ya !

I'd also suggest an AMNPS so ya don't have to fill the wood chip tray every 30-45 min. It'll last for hours !

Thanks.

That's interesting.  Do I just put that where the wood chip tray is in the smoker?

I have a Gen 1 MES 30 & the AMNPS fits perfectly just to the left of the chip tray, the inventor Todd, made it specifically for the MES.... Though not sure if it fits in the same spot on all MES smokers.... Which one did ya get ?

From the looks or the pic, it's a gen 1 (control on top back) 30".  Now I got a stupid question.  Do these electric smokers ignite the wood chips (or in this case pellets since I ordered the above mentioned product)?  I'm wondering if it just smolders or does it do a full on flame.

If your talkin on the AMNPS, I lite mine with a little butane torch.... Then that thing just puts out some great smoke... Great for cold smoking to, which is what I use my MES for !

The only other thing I'd suggest picking up is a reliable dual probe therm like a Maverick ET-732 or such as my MES stock therm is off by bout 30* ! The dual probe therm will let ya track food IT as well as smoker temp !

I should clarify, I use my MES for cold smoking & sausage, bacon making.... So cold smoking & temps between 100-150* ! Using the AMNPS !

Yes, AMNPS.  But if you are igniting it, then I might not be able to use it.  I'm not allowed to have any type of "open flame" on the patio.  Even though this is all enclosed, would still be a $500 fine.  though thinking about it now, I might not be able to use it at all on my patio since I'm sure the wood (chips or pellets) will be producing a flame.

Thanks.  It's a nice 55f here I think.  Good day for a Hill Country wildflower drive.  Perfect to end up at Inks Lake and fire up my Weber BabyQ.

Glad you joined the group. The search bar at the top of any page is your best friend.
About anything you wanna know about smoking/grilling/curing/brining/cutting or slicing

because their are so many different ways to make great Q...
Happy smoken.

Noooooo.  Fire Dept told me that I can not use the MES on my patio.

Yeah, but not in an apt complex.  They were not 100% sure on their answer.  But a couple of the guys in the fire marshal office had electric smokers and they commented that the wood could flare up.  So it would be a crap shoot.  If someone called the fire dept, I'd get a fine.

I wonder if it would be possible to use *ack* liquid smoke
