Picked up a Brinkmann Trailmaster Vertical Smoker today at BPS (they finally had them in!).  So stoked! (see what I did there...lol)

Gonna do some mods, gaskets, charcoal basket etc.  Thinking about a Stoker too.  Not sure which one?.....any suggestions?

I will post pics when I start to put it all together!

Congratulations my friend! I'm "stoked" for you! Check out the IQ. Those seem to be pretty hot right now. I'm sure someone else in the know will know something better, but from my understanding the IQ is a good one. Get to the mods and definitely a charcoal basket and let's see some pics. Here's my basket for the mini WSM. It's nothing fancy, but it does the job.

Well, between work and a well deserved vacation to the mrs and I, the smoker was put on the back burner for a bit.  This weekend is a long weekend for us so I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to get this project started.  Went to my local BBQ store and got all the stuff i needed.  I picked up the Digi Q.  Seems like a pretty good option and looks very well made.

I will post some pics of the build as I go along and hopefully not too many questions!

Looking forward to maybe even getting a rack of baby backs going!

I have been reading the threads onthis smoker and all the mods the members are doing.  I was really surprise to find these!

They must have done some modifications to their design....it now comes with built in clamps!

Got everything out and transported to the backyard.....

As the instructions indicate I started by putting the legs and wheels on the then got to the mods.....we have a really good BBQ store near us and I was able to purchase most of what I needed.  I started with sealing the sections of the firebox......

I then sealed up the crossover with RTV.....

Done for today!

I have a couple if things to do tomorrow like installing my BBQ Guru Digi Q DX 2 and then season and burn in.  Hopefully if all goes well.....maybe even a test cook of some baby backs!!

More to come!

So I installed the digital Q this morning and started the season and burn in. Got it up to 250 for 2 hours no problem....then added more coals and wood and got it up to 400 by opening the top damper all the way.....stayed for about 30 Minutes but started to drop....I opened up the draft door and got it back up to 325 350....for about another hour.....do you guys this is enough? I let it go another 45 min and then took the digital Q off and put on the kill cap and closed the dampers....

I think I know what the issues was.....looking at bbq guru website and they recommend the pit bull fan for my size smoker.....they gave me the pit viper.....going to have to exchange that!
