Inkjunkies UDS v1.1

Last attempt was a bust. Food out of it had an "off" taste. Suspect it was from the lumber I used to burn it out, it was oozing some sort of sappy, oily looking substance...and the food had an oily taste to it. This time no funky intakes, will just be four .750" floor flanges. Will be using 2 ball valves, because I have them, on opposing intakes. No funky dual exhaust, will just have 8 .750" holes drilled on the side of the drum, just under the lid. Few pictures of the burnout...

I'd add another intake and eliminate a couple of your exhausts.

5 intakes? And only 6 .750" exhausts? I see it now, my first post is a bit confusing. Will have a total of 4 intakes. 2 of them will be just floor flanges with removable plugs, the other 2 will have ball valves.

Read that wrong the first time thought you only had two intakes. Four is plenty. You reallly only need 3" of exhaust.

None of my lids have a bung in them. Like the idea of the exhaust being in the side....kinda hard for rain to find its way in. On my first attempt with drum, after I pulled the goofy dual exhaust off of it I used the 8 holes. Seemed to work well...

Anybody else hear crickets??

Maiden voyage happening. Spent several hours with the angle grinder cleaning up the inside. Have the 4 intakes open for now. Have no idea what the temperature is doing, no thermometer yet, ordered a new one for it. For now will just use the Thermoworks in it.

Going to let it wide open for 2 hours then shut the intakes one an hour. Will be cooking chicken for dinner tonight on it.

I like the feet you used. Did you buy those or are they custom?

Make sure you can close all those holes off with something after you are done smoking. It really saves on charcoal and that is the beauty of the UDS. I guess fridge magnets might work but they might melt. That is why we use the bung hole lids. With the plugs in the holes tight no water gets in there except for condensation.

Oh well, heck I took a closer look and you have proper magnets for that. Good idea!

made them. Wasn't paying much attention when I did, messed them up some. Going to hopefully be able to remake them from remnants when I build my Reverse Flow.

You know, you could use that drum with a 30 gallon inside it and make your own charcoal. I've been wanting to do this for a while now. Just looking for a free 30 gal around here. I have 4 55 gallon barrels over at my dad's place.
