Thanks for adding me. We just have a traeger grill, but some day I would like to make a real smoker. I have never used one or seen one in action so maybe if I hang out I can learn a bit. Is there a good place to get plans for one? I was thinking of one on wheels I could take to group camping meet ups. How heavy of pipe does a person use? I should be able to get all the steel easily, I just don't know exactly what I need. We are located in South Central Montana. We ranch, so the mr. does not have a lot of free time. But I am thinking if I built a nice smoker/grill, he would enjoy learning how to use it.

Welcome carol jo! :welcome:
As far as building a smoker, you should check out Brian's build for a mini WSM:

They are small and very portable. It's nothing to bag about, but it's perfect for backyard smokes at home. I built mine for around $80 and it performs awesome. Not too much of an investment to get started smoking meat.
You could also start with a smaller manufactured one like the 14" Weber Smokey Miuntain or even the el cheapo Brinkmann ( known as ECB on here).
What ever route you choose, we're glad to have you.
