Wondering if I should return this unit.

The oven therm is hanging from that grate, not sitting in the sand.  I didn't even look at that one since using the Maverick now.

Actually took it out just before...

Well the chicken probe is up to 145 but like I said it was at 153 before removing the pieces to mop them..

Do you think these probes not going to 32 in ice water is bad?  I figured if they are off on the low end then that shouldn't

matter much as long as the high end is spot on,  Your thoughts?

I wouldn't worry about the low end too much. Mine are 5 degrees off from each other even. I would just go with it but that seems like a long time for some skinless breasts. The only thing I could think of was that they were partially frozen when you started. But probably not. Who knows.

It would have to be very very icy ice water to be exacly 32 and they do take a little while to respond.

Hmm  I always thought that just a cup of crushed ice and water should be 32,

Seems wrong since its NOT frozen right?  LOL

Anyway the chicken is back up to 153 right now so going to wait til 160 to pull em'

I'll let you know how it comes out!  Wish me luck buddy!

But MAN  these ABTs are out of this world! hahaha

I make them every time I BBQ. They are even better just cooler than room temp if you can believe that.

I'm sure you are done cooking by now, but for your next smoke you might want to consider getting a second thermometer. I always check with another thermo prior to pulling to make sure my Maverick is correct. As @timberjet said, you can get different readings based on where the probe is.

All great info guys!
I really appreciate the help!
Haven't spent this much time with my son
In a long time! He loves it too! 👍
Funny, this chicken is more moist the second day! All my friends at work says it really really good! Yes!
Just some more tweaking on the smoker and we'll be dialed in I think!

Ha! Yeh I would say I'm hooked!
Going to build a UDS ! Can't wait.
Just got a drum here at work midnigjt shift!
Yuk
But anyway, YEH. Those UDSs seem to work very well from what I've been reading.
Should be a fun project!
I'll post the build in the UDS forum.
Thanks again guys for your input.
