Ripped out the stamped tin chip pans. Installed steel rails and a set of cast iron pans. Installed a needle valve inline.

The fittinging were chosen to avoid cutting the hose. The regulator/hose assembly is a permanent assembly. The fitting on the hose end is 45 degree SAE.

Very nice!!  Love the mods!

Have you used the new chip pans yet?  How do you find them compared to the stock ones?

With your valve mod, what parts did you use and have you been able to regulate the temp better than before the mod?

Yes, the cast iron pans work very well. I can use wood chunks as opposed to chips. Longer time in between fills. And not getting that overheated chip flareup. The needle valve has allowed me to pull the chamber down to 130 degrees so far. But, at that low of a flame, any wind will knock it out. Next is to fasten a skirt to the legs to shield the flames. And possibly a baffle inside near the lower vents. My inaugural cook was a success. I did chicken wings, boston butt, ribs, a whole turkey, and a huge brisket. Oh, and 3 fatties. I was able to adjust temperatures from 48 ambient in the early AM to almost 80 at noon. And I felt much safer than running the factory valve backwards towards off.
