Central Minnesota
I'm Ann and I live in central Minnesota. I love hunting and fishing...the reason for my user name...Rod and Gun.

Smoker experience:

I've smoked meat in the past using a front-load Big Chief Smoker from Luhr Jensen, but wanted something that was more predictable and easier to control (and the cord no longer worked)...good reason to get a new smoker! I have mostly used this smoker for venison jerky. I also put some canned salmon in a pie tin and smoked it to use in a cream cheese dip.

I recently purchased a MasterBuilt digital electric smoker. I have smoked 2 batches of venison jerky, one bacon-wrapped venison tenderloin, and one bacon-wrapped roast. When I have more time, I'll ask for some tips and pointers to improve the final product.

Future smoking plans:

I'm looking forward to some great recipes, advice, and techniques that will hep me develop my skills. We just acquired a deer that was hit in the back hip so the plan is to make some snack sticks. I just saw a post on here for some dried beef (venison) that I now plan on making, too.

I haven't had a chance to look yet, but I would like to smoke some fish, too.

I'm looking forward to being a part of this group!

Ann,welcome to the forum. You'll find lots of good info and a lot of great people here. When you get a chance check out the MES owners group in "groups" above, lots of great info for MES owners like us(there are a bunch of us here!). Also recommend "Bears step by steps", use the search bar above. I'd post a link, but I'm a low-tech redneck and don't know how. ;-) Happy smokin', David.

Thanks David!

I will go look for the MES group! It's funny that you mention the Bears Step by Steps because that thread is the one that actually prompted me to sign up. There are so many great posts on here that I've seen so far, and it looks like there are a lot more! I could spend days, months, and even years on here checking everything out!

Thank you!

Thanks! We are cleaning a deer right now that was hit by a car and had a broken leg. Gonna try making some dried venison and some snack sticks. I'm looking forward to it! Never done either of those before.

Welcome from Canada, Ann.
