which the best dial thermometer for a smokehouse? Does it matter if the stem is only 2"?

I want one to the smokehouse heat.

I personally have never "trusted" any dial. Digitals all the way. I have mavericks and thermapens for that! I could be wrong with my opinion, but that being said...i trust my digitals. I believe it is worth the extra money to know what is really going on!

BTW ...i have built a mini WSM...and own its bigger brother WSM...and an mes...and an offset... All came with dials except my mini! I would also like to find the answer to your question!

I have bought the Maverick ET-733 just waiting for it to arrive!!!

Anyway...I think it has a 3" stem with a nut on the back so it can be drilled into my fridge smoker.

Would it be suitable to use alongside the Maverick ET-733?

Also it can be calibrated. How can I calibrate it?

The lowest reading it has is 50 F so I cant use iced water, but if I use the boiling method (I live in Mexico City so the boiling temp is about 92 degrees Celsius (198 degrees Fahrenheit)), does it matter if the back of the dial is about 1/2 inch away from the boiling water?

. Just for comparison with mine. I'm sure there are better dial therms out there besides webers. And I guess i should clarify my last post that the MES comes with a digital probe that has never been correct. Congrats on the Maverick 733! I have 732's and have been bullet proof!

I tested it and it is spot on!

Any suggestions on where I could put it in my smoker?

I will have to drill a hole into the smoker so it'll be in a fixed place.

I own the ET-733 and it's a great therm. The only knock I have against it is that Maverick made it more of a hassle to program it than it needed to be. You'll see what I mean after it arrives and you start using it. The ET-733 doesn't have to be programmed to use it but the personalized settings are very helpful once they're in place.
