The meat probe of my 732 apparently died and took out a whole batch of summer sausage with it! Checking the probe, it has ice water at 140 degrees F. Not so good. Looks like the rubber or sealant where the cable enters the probe is melted out.

Looking at other threads here, seems to be a common issue. I there a better wireless thermometer set out there that anyone here would recommend? I suppose I can get a replacement probe, but confidence level is now low on durability.

Any thoughts?

Thermoworks makes some good products, but I put my Maverick 732 through hell cooking competitions and it has done me good time after time.  They are hard to beat.  I usually keep an extra probe at the ready.

I really like the 732 and it has done a great job until now. Only used it a couple dozen times so I was surprised when a probe failed. I just ordered a 2 pack of the food probes and the smoker probes just to be ready. I read some posts that said they sealed the wired end of the probe with either high temp heat shrink tubes or silicone. Might try that. Thanks.

My 732 is over 6 years old! Never had a problem with it. I haven't really used now for over 4 years. I bought the original IGrill and it was great. Upgraded this last year to the iGrill 2 and its worked great too. Passed my iGrill to my cousin and keep the Mav as a backup, used it once last year when I need more than 4 probes. Anyways the iGrill 2 has been great easy to set alarms, can monitor four things at once. Really like it. Wish they'd go wifi though. That would be the best!
