Coastal Smoker

Thread Starter

Logging into the roll call. Patsmaker4op. I live in Palm Coast, Florida. I have always taken pride in the grill but I have recently started to experiment in the Q. I am Massachusetts guy gone South. I started on a combo cheap offset smoker/gas grill. My brother in law talked me into a 18.5" WSM. No regrets there. I have had a blast trying out rubs sauces and experimenting making my own. I have yet to nail it but my 8 year old daughter says my ribs are the best. I'll take that any day. I have followed the forum for all its useful advise but I recently decided to join because I desire to build my own masonry offset smoker. The postings by Wes W's build inspired me. The support others have shown him sealed the deal. I have searched the web like several others looking for designs and inspiration. My wife and I just moved into our new house before Thanksgiving and the back yard is begging for a bbq and a fire pit. It will be a monster project considering the sloped terrain but One of these days I will stop staring at it and start working. I have some masonry experience that will get me through the project for sure but I am no expert. I'm more of an out of shape, beer drinking, sports watching, bbq cooking dad and husband. And proud of it! Maybe y'all can light a fire under my ass.

Funny story. Today we went on some usual Saturday chores. The local pool supply store had decided to start selling the BGE. I picked up some John Henry's Sugar maple and Texas Pig Rub. Of course we had head right to Publix to get 2 slabs of St. Louis ribs. I picked up a 2.5 lb brisket flat on sale too. All melting in the fridge in their dry rub. Tomorrow should be fun.

My daughter told me I was out of shape and I said round is a shape! ;)
