I'm Joe from northeast Ohio and this is my story:
It all started earlier this summer when my buddy came home from basic training and his family put together a nice coming home party. After plenty of alcohol with little food I found myself in the kitchen talking to his dad. He was telling me how the "brisket" was almost ready. I had no idea what he was really talking about to be honest. It was after he set it on the counter and gave me the first slice that I instantly fell in love.
I absolutely had to experience that taste again. But when it came to smoking I literally had zero idea about anything at all that involved it. So I decided to watch some videos of guys smoking their own briskets. Just watching those made my mouth water. I began looking online for how expensive smokers were and came across the Brinkmann Smoke N Grill for only $49.99! Now I'm only 18 years old so my budget wasn't too high. After making a couple mods to it, I tested it out with no meat and everything worked well.
After having the confidence of being able to smoke a brisket and not completely ruin it (or throw $50 down the drain!!) I bought a 6ib brisket on Saturday and smoked it on Sunday (last week). All together it came out pretty good. Shortly after on Tuesday I smoked some pork chops and they also came out well. There is certainly room for improvement though!
I wanted to thank everyone from this website as well as all the guys on Youtube for sharing all this information. It took me hours and hours of research to actually dive into something so complex and give it a shot. This Sunday I plan on smoking some ribs. Any tips would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys!
