New to Smoking Meets

Thread Starter
I got a nice new electric smoker for Christmas. I have a crazy question. Should the vent be opened or closed for smoking? If open, how far open? Is it dependent on the type of meat one is smoking?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Usually top vent all the way open.

I would open it all the way   You don't want stale smoke

Keep it closed to keep the bugs out.  As long as you have air movement you will be fine.  How far you open it depends on the color and density of your smoke.  It can also be used for heat control.

You may find the following helpful.   New to smoking or have a new smoker?

Have fun.
