I was just about to start a new thread on this very subject, glad I found this thread! Cabela's has the SMJ Gold on sale right now but I couldn't find a pot anywhere for it. I may just pick up the SMJ and sit on it until I find something to fit it at a later date.
The drum looks nice, but $45 and then shipping, a little rich for my blood![/quote

Sawinredneck, I used an Imusa 32qt steamer that I ordered from Target online. $32 shipped. Just a thought.View media item 420275

Tamales are a huge Christmas tradition here in Texas. The stores has stock in anticipation. Great time to pick up an extra pot or three!

I sure miss those Vasconia pots with the black insulated handles. They were a perfect fit.

I found my Imusa at a Walmart in Philadelphia a couple weeks ago. I'm not sure how many WM's you have in your area, I'm fortunate to have quite a few within a reasonable drive. That said, I really had to play with the zip code search feature on the site over a period of days, because they appeared to unavailable at first. Finally, I found a location with 2 in stock, and ordered both. One was badly dented, so I returned it on the spot at pickup. The Walmart I scored at did happen to be in an area with a big hispanic population, which is a known factor.

I should also add that I did find about a half dozen of the Imusa pots at a supermarket in NJ with a big hispanic clientele, but they were priced at $39.99. Glad I held out for a better price. Good luck!

If you happen to be in a pinch for a pot, there are two other options to consider. Buy any 32 qt tamale steamer and shave off excess from the rolled rim using a grinding wheel until your lid fits comforably. Your ither option is to visit your local restaurant supply store. I picked up an "Update" brand 40 qt, aluminum pot for $65.00. It is 15" tall and 14 1/4", external diameter. The wall is about 3/16" thick, making it thicker than you standard 32 qt tamale pot. Wih the extra height of the pot, I'll be able to have more options for adjustable height racks. My next aquisition will be a pot for the Jumbo Smokey Joe.
