I was amazed with JD07's mini WS smoker at the Nov South Florida Gathering. During the Holiday's the tamale pots were really pricey. So the price finally came down and I got one. I have had a garage sale Weber Gold for years as my go to camping grille.

So following the forum advise I cut out the bottom and installed SS 10-32X1/2 screws or the grille supports. The bottom fit the Weber perfectly. The top needed some massaging. Rather than crimping I used a soft hammer & body shop shoe to tap the rim over. Same results but less marring.

I think I just need to get a couple of extra grates and will be go-to-go. Really interested in this as it should fit well with the camper. I may paint it to match the Weber but that is abut all. We have a campout later this month and really hope to have it burned in for that.

Thanks for all the forum advise on putting one of these together!

Craig... That things looks great... glad I was of inspiration ... you'll love it... :grilling_smilie:

Did you put a heat sync/defusser in the bottom ?? Do you have a set of the digital therms ??

Everything ok over there with you and the Mrs... ?? Tell her we said Hi ...

Thanks WaterinHoleBrew,

As you can see by the hole I ran out of SS screws. I'll have to pick some more up to finish the job & replenish the stock.

Looking forward to trying it out soon.

Love the mini. I use mine 3-4 times a week. Makes a great grill to.

Hi Keith!

I was really impressed by your smoker. I haven't decided on the heat defuser, the tamale steam plate seems a bit light so thinking of what you did with a CI skillet. Harbor Freight has a good deal on one so cutting the handle off wouldn't bother me to much. I have a single probe digital thermo that can be pressed into duty.

Ann's doing fine, she says Howdy! She is looking forward to some camping later this month. Rainbow Springs on 2/20-23 then Myakka River on 3/21-23.

Yay! Another Mini joins the ranks! Don't limit your mind to thinking one diffuser is what you need. These little guys perform great with or without a diffuser depending on what you are smoking. Low and slow, put in something wrapped in foil with thermal mass. I use a scrap chunk of granite 8"x9"X1" thick. Sometimes I use the 10" terracota plant tray. Mostly I use nothing or the steamer insert. All depends on what you are cooking.

As for camping, the mini is the best smoker around for that. Use it to smoke, use it to grill or use it to do both and reverse sear.

Now if you really want to up it a notch, cut a door in that mini and start cooking pizza at camp! The Mini-ZA rocks!

Very nice looking unit!  They will cook anything and do great job at it. But around my house my mini referred to as "The Wing Machine"  LOL b

Thanks for all the encouragement. Not sure what I'll smoke first, I did a pull pork for Super Bowl. Had the flu the past couple days so food is low on the list right now. Wings sounds good! Hoping to finish it up this weekend and get it burned in. We are camping later this month I plan to put the WSM to work. The pizza sounds interesting. Been thinking of trying a DO pizza.

Cutting the bottom out allows room for more charcoal and more air for a better burn.

Dirtsailor,

Checked out your post. Your son looks like a pizza making pro!

After I get the hang of mine I'll make the door mods & try it out. Pizza in the woods would be cool.

What is the two rows of pop rivets in the door for?
