Smokehouse dilemma

So I have been using a Bradley 4 rack for the last 6 years and love it but it just doesn't have the size. So for the last year I have been kicking the idea of building a smoke house around and have now decided to giver. Now I like the easy set of electric for temp but I am having a difficult time finding a element that will heat a smoke house as I would prefer to stay with 120v power. I guess my question is does anyone know of a element that would do the trick for me? Or should I just set it up on propane? But I have no smoking experience with propane. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I am going to start building tomorrow haha

Welcome, from southern Ohio, to the best forum on the internet if you are looking to learn how to BBQ/smoke/brine/cure/inject. Well you get the picture if you can do it to something you put on a plate to eat then someone here has probably done it then smoked it.

Use the search bar at the top of the page and you will be led to the answer to most every question you can think of. If you don't find the answer there then just post it and someone will chime in with their opinion on the subject.

How big of a smoke house are you thinking about? If you want to go electric and stay with 120 volts, then insulation is a must!

the biggest element you can run on a standard 20 amp 120 volt individual circuit is going to be 2000 watts. Insulate the smoker and it probably will work. I built mine out of cinder blocks and wood, fired with propane or a real fire. I also have 2 MES Electric  smokers i use. Seems like each one has a purpose depending on what and how much meat product. Below is a picture of the wooden one.I might have 200 buck in the whole thing at most.

Ya insulation is a must up here where I do a lot of smoking around the -20 Celsius. I am looking at building about 30 inches wide 30 inches deep and 6 feet tall. I am also going to be using a Bradley smoke generator.

If your gonna stay 120v .. you should really consider 2 heat elements ... Just one element for that size smokehouse and your gonna struggle... I tried it with a 1500W element, smokehouse is 36" x 36" x 6'... I struggled to get to 150` (and that was empty) .. put 2, 220V elements out of an oven and temps were over 300` ... Not sure what your cooking and what temps your looking for... but that was my experience ...

I do a mix of just about everything in my smoker from roast to bacon to turkeys. But I do A LOT of jerky haha.
