First smoke time, 8# butt halved, one rubbed with Jeff rub the other SPOG cause my wife doesn't do sugar, holding strong at 250 with ball valve wide open and the other vents capped, Q-view to follow

Well I don't think I'll be cutting it in half next time at least not one unless it's at least 14 pounds, meat is kinda dry, ton of smoke flavor though, nothing a little sauce won't fix

Did you cut it in half simply so you could season them differently or so it would cook faster? If you just want them to cook faster than run your smoker at 300 and it will cook in about an hour per pound.

i was also having a problem keeping the heat down and im pretty sure that was part of reason it didnt turn out well, i need to add some of that rope gasket to the lid to make a better seal and seal any other air leaks, i couldnt even snuff out the coals last night cause their is air leaking in from somewhere.

Yea that doesn't help. I have some leaks but they are still small enough that the fire goes out pretty quick when I shut it down. Have you sealed around the intakes with RTV sealant?
