Please pleas please put the lid on the bottom!!! Many don't feel the need but let me tell you it's worth it!

Yeah Case, I do plan on it... I was just hoping to fire it up tonite & skipped that step temporarily but may as well have done it as wasn't able to smoke on it tonite ! We picked up some BB to do the first smoke with & they stunk bad when we opened them up. They are headed back to the store in the morning for the money back ! Hoping to fire it up tomorrow !

Nice job man, dang shame about those ribs but sure seems to happen more and more these days. I really miss the olden days where we had a friendly neighborhood meat market where the butchers hung and cut their own meats. You knew it was fresh and the best they could get.

Those kids of yours are the best part.

One heck of a nice job, looks like you were a pretty good helper

Thanks Foam, much appreciated ! I was quite bummed about the ribs for sure.... I agree with ya, back in the day when I was a kid I used to go to the meat market with my Grandpa & we NEVER had a bad piece of meat ! Ya could just tell the quality of the meat & the butcher was proud to cut it to your specs & wrap it up real nice ! Now it seems everything is mass produced & packaged by machines... Anyway, enough of my rant.... That's why for the most part we get a half a beef & a pig each year... Totally local raising & processing !

My kiddos are something else & can't keep em away from the smoker if I tried.... Lol. They requested burgers today, go that's how the minis first smoke will go !

Thanks for dropping a line !

Nice Justin!! You couldn't have done it without your crew;)

How's the lid fit now?

I didn't put the lid on the bottom either and I can get a 10 hour burn running petty hot...either way is all good.

You'll love the cooker.

Thanks Keith, they were with me the whole build !

The lid fits great, I took my vise grips with a cloth & just went around the edge.... I could have maybe thought the strategy out a little more, as I've got the little teeth marks on the top of the pot.... Gives er character I guess... Lol

I think I'll do the lid on the bottom just due to this IMUSA pot is kinda snug in the SJ base right now.... Not sure during a cook if I could take it off to add more coals or chunks if I needed to...

Thanks for dropping a line man !

Yep that makes sense Justin for sure.     If you can find fiber washers it will help prevent grease from leaking out where the bolt holes are....gotta get new ones myself.

That's awesome Gary, your right... Nothin like the kiddos ! He is a handsome little guy !

Funny quick story... My boy, he's five was sitting by me a few weeks ago asking why I do this & why I do that, just on & on for round 15 minutes... Why you go to work ? Why you clean out the garage ? Etc !

So I after answering these questions, ask him... Well Pete, how come you do some of the stuff you do ? Ya know, being a little mess.... Not minding some days.... Not always cleaning up your room.... Why do you do that ? He stopped, looked up at me & said " Dad, cause I'm a kid" ! Lol. I bout choked I was laughing so hard !

Thanks for dropping a line Gary !

Thanks Keith, I will look into them.... the other thing I need to do is figure out a better washer or somethin for the vents.... The SJ Gold comes with the carry handle that also serves as the vent holders but i didn't put that on due to not needing the carry handle ! I used a couple regular washers & a lock washer hoping to lock them in place but I don't think it's gonna work !

No color controversy Justin!! With the great Jr pit masters have them make two more minis. I've for each of them!! You'd be the second coolest dad ever (behind me of course) they would never stop talking about having their own smoker!

Just get the black paint and let each one pick a sticker from a local surf shop! Or ski shop in your case...

I've been to SE Idaho a few times. My mom lived there, Menan, for about 15 years. I also went skiing at grand targhee once.

That is a nice looking smoker. I'd say your helpers are now ready to eat so lets see some smoke.
Happy smoken.
David

Thanks David, done some burgers & posted them.... They were tasty ! Thumbs Up
