Hi,
My name is Credan, i live in Brisbane, Australia. Not sure how many Aussie smokers are on here, was a bit disappointed there wasn't a group for us, as I've got a fair amount of australia specific questions about woods, and suppliers etc
I've always been big into my cooking and after my missus bought me a spit roaster for my birthday last year, it opened a whole new world of charcoal BBQ, I'd only really used the Aussie standard Gas BBQs. I started researching for smokers to build, that's how i found SMF, i like to think I'm a little bit handy and would rather spend my time building something than buying something, not a common trait these days. It took me a while to decide on what type of smoker to build, but after reading everything i could, I couldn't go past the humble UDS, especially for my first build (I will be putting together a bit of a build post as i took plenty of photos, and can hopefully help some other aussies with the lessons I've learnt)
2015 is my year to get stuff done, no more procrastinating, so after coming across a free 44 gal drum, I got to work building my UDS. 48 hours after I picked up my drum, $200 spent on bits and pieces, and I was enjoying some delicious pork ribs. She may not be perfect, or have all the features i want (yet), but I think I'm going to be spending a lot of time this year getting to know my UDS better!
I look forward to learning everything I can from the people here
Cheers
Credan
