Had an opportunity to purchase a new MES 40 Generation 1 at a very reasonable price from a guy here in Pittsburgh who received two of them as gifts 4 years ago but only utilized one of them until his wife finally asked "What are you going to do with that other smoker"?...Well, we know the rest.

Anyway,  I am excited at "upgrading" to the 40" model and fortunately learned a great deal from using my 30" model (which by the way I sold in 5 minutes on Craig's List).  I don't anticipate the transition being too difficult or confusing because I have accumulated all the accoutrements that were necessary to make life easier with the MES, (A-maze-n tube and tray smoke generators, Mailbox Mod, and a wealth of knowledge from a Great Group of Guys and Gals here on our Forum".  One question though.

Since I am not going to use the built in meat probe, can I disconnect it without creating havoc with the control panel?

One more thing (couldn't resist).

I have been reading various threads lately and to my dismay am disappointed that some newer members feel the urge  to "argue" regarding equipment and techniques.

Thank you to our administrators, moderators,  and sponsors who keep a cool head and maintain civility.  We members need to keep in mind that we all have our own way of doing things and no one way is always better or superior to another.  We all have learned from trial and error,  so our successes are bonuses and our failures are learning experiences.

The greatest thing about this sight is that there are a great deal of knowledgeable people here who are willing to share their knowledge so we all can have more successes and fewer failures .  So please, less "arguing" and more sharing.  Thanks again Guys/Gals!

Happy Smoking All,  John
