Making a wind breaker box for a masterbuilt 40

I live in Iowa on a farm and it tends to get windy especially in the winter and I am thinking about making a wooden cover for my Masterbuilt Sportsman Elite 40. My thoughts are just a simple "box" to go over it minus the front and bottom so the door can open and it can be slid on from behind. Has anyone tried something like this before? I didn't know how much of a gap I should leave from the smoker itself and the wood and if I should leave some clearance on the bottom so some airflow can go through. It would just be a simple 4 2x4's with plywood on the 2 sides and the back. Any thoughts?

It has been done that way as well as some well thought out over the top setups. Use the search bar and you should find a lot of good ideas.

I built an outhouse type box with a sloped roof for my little chief. same concept. drilled three holes at the bottom left with a 3/4 inch paddle bit and three in the top right. I made a door but never have needed it. I just turn it so the door is in the lee side of the wind. I can take a picture but it is so basic there is really no need. but if you want one I will.

Sure if you post a picture it would be helpful. As I keep reading more I see more I can add to my rough idea of what I want. Seems to start simple but I doubt it will end that way.

That's about what I'm thinking of doing. I'll proly add a top on mine just because I'm a all weather griller and now smoker so I'm thinking that will help when it comes time for snow.
