New Smoker

Thread Starter

Hello to all.

I am brand new to this site and I'm in love with it already.

I have recently bought me an Oklahoma Joe horizontal smoker, and to say the least, it was a learning experience when I fired it up for the first time. I have already learned of several mods I am going to get done prior to spring and am very excited.

Most of the modifications are fairly easy for me to understand why it would help but why would I consider extending my smoke stack?? If someone could please explain.

A little about myself. I live in middle Tennessee and have been a cop for 13 years. Prior to that I was an Infantryman in the Army for 8 years. I love good bourbon and cigars, both of these go great sitting next to a smoker.

I am very young at smoking so any advice will be greatly appreciated. I look forward to using this site for a long time to come.

Thank you all

Welcome, from southern Ohio, to the best forum on the internet if you are looking to learn how to BBQ/smoke/brine/cure/inject. Well you get the picture if you can do it to something you put on a plate to eat then someone here has probably done it then smoked it.

Use the search bar at the top of the page and you will be led to the answer to most every question you can think of. If you don't find the answer there then just post it and someone will chime in with their opinion on the subject.

The reasoning behind extending your smoke stack in most cases, is to create more draft through your smoker so thar the air and smoke in your cook chamber moves through faster.

Always remember the only dumb question is the one you don’t ask!!
Keep Smokin!!!
