I know whiskey is aged in barrels but has anyone tried to add smoke flavor by lightly smoking it? Crazy thought I know , but there is a fire cured cigar called kentucky fire cured that has a smoked flavor and it got me thinking....I wonder how it would turn out...any thoughts??. Am I crazy?..

Crazy is a relative term and I know this because I have lots of crazy relatives

Im think more of a cold smoke like you would cheese. Im thinking an external smokebox with the smoke coming in and infusing with the whiskey or bourbon that is in a pot of some sort...Hmm how about a Cherry smoked bourbon or an applewood whiskey? I would love for someone with this kindda setup to try it and let us know if it works...but I would hate to waste any booze if it doesnt....it could be the next big thing!,,,, Haa haa remember you heard it here first!
Keep you fires lit,
Im outta here,

Try smoking ice then refreeze it, add to your drink and if you don't like it toss the ice.

I can say that it does work. Shallow pan whiskey, or vodka or tequila, or rum. Cold smoke and there you have it.

There are infusion kits you can buy also. They have charred wood or just plain wood that you put in the bottle with the your booze of choice.

Awesome replies folks! I cant wait to hear how it turns out !!

Smoke stack,

I wanted to give you my results from last weeks smoke.

While smoking some cheese, I added 3 small containers of Vodka in the mix. The reason I did 3 was to increase the surface area to catch more smoke. I used cherry wood and went for 4 hours. After removing, there was a noticeable smoke smell. A small taste and noticed a slight smoky flavor. Poured back in the bottle and put away until this morning. The smoke smell was much stronger this time.

I didn't try it by itself, but rather made my weekend morning favorite Bloody Mary. What a nice combination. It has a great smoky taste and the aftertaste is like a good smoky BBQ sauce. It tastes like I just had a bite if BBQ chicken or ribs. It may be a little strong with the 4 hour smoke, but I can always mellow it out by adding some un-smoked vodka until I get the flavor I want.

Give it a try using small amounts add mix to your liking.

Tried to add pics but still haven't mastered Windows 8, sorry

Never even thought about trying that !

Thank you for the reply! I got excited when I read it.Your idea of a Bloody Mary was awesome and got me wanting one too!,,so I went out and brought some V8 juice as I already have the vodka. Im hoping to smoke some sausages and a chuck roast tomorrow while watching the games. Im gonna try it as a regular smoke with apple wood. Iam going to smoke it at a low temp with the vodka ( thinking 225) I hope the heat wont hurt it. Ill let it smoke for 3 hours as you said 4 was to long for your liking. Ill keep ya posted!
keep you fire lit!

My nephew owns a bar and they bought a smoke pistol..If you Google it I will show you how to make drinks with it..Have fun..Tom

You can smoke water and then make ice cubes. use them in a bloody mary or in 3 fingers of good bourbon.

That smoking pistol is neat. .......I bet its a hit at all the teen partys!.......Anyway I like my smoke the ol' fashion way.
low and slow. But it is a neat tool if ya dont have the time. Now I curious what is the most strange thing anyone has tried to smoke?
(Besides toothpaste)

Maybe you should start a new thread asking that very question.
